SINGAPORE: Mr Muhamad Faisal bin Abdul Manap, the Vice Chairman of the Workers’ Party (WP) and Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, has been discharged from hospital following a cardiac episode, according to an announcement by the WP on Friday (28 July).

Mr Faisal, whose medical scare earlier this week prompted a flood of prayers, concerns, and well-wishes, is now recuperating at home.

In the interim, Mr Faisal’s parliamentary and constituency responsibilities will be handled by his fellow Workers’ Party MPs in the Aljunied GRC, in addition to other senior Party members and volunteers.

After suffering from a cardiac condition, Mr Faisal was rushed to the hospital on Monday night, 24th July. His condition has since been reported as stable, and he remained conscious throughout his stay in the Intensive Care Unit.

During Mr Faisal’s hospitalization, Png Eng Huat, former MP for Hougang SMC and current member of the WP’s central executive committee, stepped in to cover his meet-the-people session (MPS) on Wednesday.

Mr Png reassured the public that he would continue to cover for Mr Faisal over the next fortnight, adding that many of the residents he had met expressed hopes for Mr Faisal’s speedy recovery.

Having previously served as Mr Faisal’s legislative assistant following the 2011 General Election before assuming the role of an MP, Mr Png is familiar with the residents’ concerns and was well-received during Wednesday’s MPS.

Mr Faisal’s discharge from the hospital has brought a collective sigh of relief across Singapore. His well-being was also a concern beyond party lines.

Mohamed Jufrie Bin Mahmood from Singapore’s Democratic Party and Damanhuri Bin Abas visited Mr Faisal at the hospital on Thursday and reported in a social media post that the WP Vice Chair was recovering well.

While Mr Faisal is on medical leave, the Workers’ Party has assured that it will continue to serve the Aljunied GRC community seamlessly. Meanwhile, Mr Faisal’s family, friends, party members, and the general public continue to extend their well-wishes for his steady and complete recovery.
