Collision of two Royal Malaysian Navy helicopters results in 10 fatalities
Two Royal Malaysian Navy helicopters collided during a training session, resulting in 10 fatalities. Investigations are underway to determine the cause.
MALAYSIA: Two Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) helicopters collided during a training session commemorating the 90th Anniversary of TLDM at around 9.45 am on Tuesday (23 April).
The training session was held at the TLDM Camp in Lumut, Perak.
The involved helicopters were identified as a Eurocopter AS555SN Fennec and an Agusta-Westland AW-139.
The Fennec helicopter was operated by a three-member crew, while the Agusta helicopter carried a team of seven.
All ten crew members lost their lives in the accident.
According to TLDM, to ascertain the cause of the collision, an investigative board will be convened.
The Agusta crashed on the stairs at the TLDM stadium while the Fennec helicopter crashed into the swimming pool in the sports complex.
