MALAYSIA: A disturbing incident unfolded on Wednesday night (4 Oct) in Jalan Kim Kee, Muar, as a man’s rage boiled over due to his inability to secure the desired amount of money from his wife.
This anger led him to commit a shocking act of violence.
The unemployed 33-year-old man, embroiled in a divorce process with his 29-year-old wife, was left fuming when she only provided him with RM100 (US$21.20) after his financial request.
At approximately 12:30 am, the situation escalated.
In a sudden and unexpected fit of anger, the man seized a rope and used it to strangle his wife, suppressing her cries by covering her mouth.
The violence escalated to the point where the victim lost consciousness.
Panicked by his actions, the suspect fled the scene as soon as his wife regained consciousness, having been awakened by a slap.
Fortunately, the victim summoned the courage to seek help, making her way to the Muar District Police Headquarters to file a report.
The victim received medical attention as an outpatient at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, as confirmed on Thursday (5 Oct).
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, commended the victim for her swift action in reporting the incident.
In response to her report, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Muar District Police Headquarters acted swiftly and successfully apprehended the suspect on the same day.
The suspect underwent a urine test for drugs, yielding negative results.
Nevertheless, further investigations are ongoing, and the suspect was taken to Muar District Police Headquarters for continued inquiry before being presented to the Magistrate’s Court.
The charges brought against him are in accordance with Section 307 of the Penal Code, which pertains to attempted murder.
In the aftermath of these events, the suspect appeared in court wearing an orange lockup shirt, seeking a remand order.
Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid granted a five-day remand order to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into this alarming incident.
