INDONESIA – A heart-stopping video of a toddler miraculously crawling out of a wrecked truck following a horrifying accident on the East Transverse Road (Jalan Lintas Timur or Jalintim) in Menggala, Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung, on Saturday (9 Sep), has gone viral.

The one-year-old baby, named Fatih Akbar, not only survived but has been safely reunited with his family in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), South Sumatra.

In the video, a bewildered toddler is seen inside the severely damaged front cabin of a truck, desperately searching for his parents. Moments later, a woman dressed in black emerges from the truck’s door.

Fatih’s mother, Sri Devi, explained that at the time of the accident, both she and Fatih were sound asleep, completely unaware of the impending collision. She had no idea how her child managed to crawl out of the truck.

“I don’t know what happened; my son and I were sleeping. I didn’t even know how he ended up outside,” said Devi.

Sri Devi revealed that her son’s condition is gradually improving, though he bears several injuries, especially on his face. There is a substantial, spreading bruise beneath his left eye, extending to his cheek, as well as a thinner bruise on his left cheek.

Additionally, there are scrape marks running from his nose to the end of his tear duct. Fatih also has wounds on his forehead, nose, and beneath his lower lip, which are beginning to heal.

“Thank God he’s healthy, but my mother took him to South Sumatra. He has several injuries, especially around his eyes, and some scrapes,” said Sri Devi when contacted by detikSumbagsel on Monday (11 Sep), while she remained in Lampung to support her comatose cousin.

Regarding the incident, Devi confirmed that she had already provided a statement to the police. “Yes, I’ve given a statement to the police. I can’t go home yet because I’m waiting for my cousin, who is still in a coma. She was the one driving the car. We were heading to Lampung,” Devi added.

The tragic incident unfolded when two trucks, a Mitsubishi Fuso in orange bearing license plate number B-9577-UYT traveling from Bandar Lampung toward Tulang Bawang, and a yellow Mitsubishi Canter Colt diesel with license plate number A-8068-QC moving in the opposite direction, collided at the scene.

First Police Inspector (Iptu) Wahyu Dwi Kristanto, the Chief of Traffic at the Lampung Tengah Police, explained that the driver of the yellow Mitsubishi Canter Colt diesel might have fallen asleep, causing the vehicle to suddenly veer to the right, crossing the lane markings and entering the right lane.

Unfortunately, the close proximity did not allow enough time for the orange Mitsubishi Fuso truck to avoid the collision, resulting in the inevitable, horrifying crash.

The collision caused the orange Mitsubishi Fuso truck to overturn onto the left shoulder of the road, while the yellow Mitsubishi Canter Colt truck came to a halt in the right lane, with its livestock feed cargo strewn across the road.

Fortunately, the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso truck, identified as AW (29), escaped the terrifying ordeal unscathed. However, the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter Colt truck, identified as I (24), suffered severe head injuries, facial abrasions, and a fractured right leg.

This incident serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential dangers of drowsy driving.
