Referred to as Lean Seng Lee Trading Centre, this basement establishment in Beauty World Centre has recently gained substantial attention on social media, primarily owing to its centenarian owner.

Lean Seng Lee Trading Centre belongs to a vanishing trade of traditional mama shops commonly found in heartland areas, which have been an integral part of the community for generations.

These shops typically offer a range of items including drinks, snacks, toys, and more, and Lean Seng Lee Trading is no exception.

According to TikTok user @bibipew, the shop sells children’s toys, head clips, drinks, candy, snacks, and even Pokémon cards.

The shop’s elderly owner is known for primarily speaking Hokkien, as reported by TikTok user @bibipew, who had a friendly encounter with her despite the language barrier.

After making a purchase, the TikTok user generously gave her S$20 and told her to keep the change.

In response, the shop owner gave the TikTok user three extra packs of snacks instead.

“Ah Ma” still healthy despite her age 

In the comment section, several people are surprised upon learning her age and witnessing “Ah Ma” appearing remarkably healthy despite her years.

Others proceeded to recount their personal visits to the mama shop, suggesting that she possibly engaged in work to occupy her time.

According to another commenter, her son would occasionally assist in managing the store.
