SINGAPORE: In Singapore’s 2023 Presidential Election, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a former PAP senior minister, secured an impressive 70% of the vote, according to the Election Department’s sample count, as of 10.42 pm on Friday (1 Sept) night.

Among Mr Tharman’s fellow contenders, Mr Ng Kok Song, the former GIC investment chief, garnered 16% of the vote, while Mr Tan Kin Lian, the former NTUC Income chief, secured 14%.

Following the announcement of the ELD’s sample count results, Mr Tan Kin Lian, the two-time Presidential candidate extended heartfelt congratulations to Mr Tharman, expressing confidence in his election as President.

“I wish him all the best in meeting the challenges ahead and I hope he will be able to bring a better life for the people.”

When asked by reporters if he was conceding, Mr Tan clarified that he would do so when the final results were confirmed. He acknowledged Mr Tharman’s overwhelming lead.

“But Mr Tharman has certainly got an overwhelming lead as of now. So I would think that he deserves my congratulations. I expected to do much better. But I think in an election things are uncertain.”

Mr Tan admitted uncertainty about the reasons for his performance and pledged to reflect on it.

He thanked his supporters and family for their campaign efforts, expressing gratitude for their dedicated support.

“I will now heed the advice of my family to take life easy and live a normal life,” said Mr Tan.

“I will spend more time with my grandchildren. In my free time, I will continue to do my part in voicing the hardship and aspirations of the people through other channels.”

In the 2011 presidential election, Mr Tan Kin Lian obtained 4.91% of the vote, while his fellow contenders, Dr Tan Cheng Bock received 34.85% of the votes, Mr Tan Jee Say secured 25.04%.

Dr Tony Tan clinched the victory with 35.2% of the votes, subsequently becoming Singapore’s seventh president with a narrow margin of 0.35%.

TKL = You are Man of the Year !!!!

Single handled all the malicious remarks !!!! Well done . GB

TKL : Thanks for giving us True Born Singaporeans to vote .

Very sorry, the pineapple tarts lover prefer a Japanese Lady as what you said we must have Truly Born Singaporeans to be State Leaders.

We salute you for all you hard work. ! Cheers !!!

Tkl, your dream of inviting pretty girls to jog at istana is shattered . Sad for you. But now you have all the time to do the fun and light hearted things.

Thank you Mr.Tan. It was courageous of you to pit yourself against the PAP. It must have been eye opening for you when you realised you were at a disadvantage when Tharman was ready and put up his posters and campaign materials before you could. I think you were delusional in thinking that you could work with the PAP in a constructive manner. I think you would have done much better if you were given more time. It is a wake-up call for you to re-examine your relationship with the PAP.

My heartfelt thanks to Mr Tan Kin Lian and his team for standing up to fight to give us a choice. It was a most unfair and unequal fight against the huge, well oiled and well funded PAP machinery. Your courage and conviction inspire us and give us hope.

Tharman didn’t just dominate proceedings, … he was the pissin proceedings !!!

The other two were merely there, … as props and an outlet for the irrelevant mini~minuscule~minority !!!

SillyPoreans are truly a unique breed of its own creation, … where when push comes to shove, they’ll willingly welcome being pushed and shoved into submission, subserviency and silence, … and, proceeds to asks for “more please” !!!

Bloody brilliant that !!

Dear Mr. TKL, my heartfelt thanks for offering yourself to stand for this presidential election in order for Singaporean to have an independent choice. Have your well deserved retirement.

As for me and the other Oppo supporters here, we stay on and fight to put our beloved country back onto the path of success / justice / equality for all regardless of race, language and religion.

I think it will not be long before the GE will be called as the Emperor without clothes will be emboldened by this winning margin by his lackey.

VTO. VTO.

Si he dis his best and got not even 15% of the votes ?
Wow, such an accomplishment lor 😀
