A viral video showed a man on the ninth-floor ledge of Block 624 Yishun Ring Road on 27 August. He slipped and fell onto a safety air pack below. The man was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.
SINGAPORE: A video that went viral on social media captured a 41-year-old man standing on the ninth-floor ledge of Block 624 Yishun Ring Road on the morning of 27 August.
The video, uploaded to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, depicted the man attempting to maneuver around a protruding pillar to reach the next ledge.
At least four Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were on the ground floor setting up a safety life air pack.
In the footage, the man can be seen turning his body towards the window while trying to navigate the pillar.
Just as he seemingly found a foothold on the adjacent ledge, he slipped and fell towards the air pack below.
The screams of onlookers were audible at the moment of his fall, and he landed on the inflated air pack with a thud.
Police and SCDF personnel quickly rushed to the scene and gathered around the man to check on him.
The Singapore Police Force and the SCDF confirmed they received a call for assistance at the block around 10:30 a.m. on 27 August.
After falling onto the safety air pack, the man was transported to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and was apprehended under Section 7 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.
