SINGAPORE: In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore celebrated Malaysia’s 66th Merdeka Day by exchanging birthday cakes with their Malaysian counterparts.
For the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), this tradition is alive and well, as they recently shared a sweet moment with their Malaysian counterparts in honour of Malaysia’s Independence Day.
Images capturing the momentous occasion were shared on ICA’s official Facebook page.
ICA extended their warm congratulations to the Land Checkpoints team in Malaysia, marking the 66th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence.
Both teams, representing the two nations divided by a causeway, were captured in joyful spirits as ICA presented cakes to officers at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) and Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), beautifully adorned with Malaysia’s flag, iconic landmarks, and elegant blue frosting.
The spirit of cake exchange wasn’t limited to Merdeka Day alone
Earlier on 9 August this year, a Facebook post by UKK BSI showcased Mrs. Vimala, Deputy Chief of Immigration at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), presenting a cake to Deputy Commander Woodlands Tong Weijie at the Woodlands checkpoint, in celebration of Singapore’s 58th National Day.
This cake, adorned with Singapore’s flag, iconic landmarks, and decorative red frosting with gold stars, added a touch of festivity to the occasion.
Public applause for a sweet gesture
In response to these heartwarming gestures, the public overwhelmingly expressed their appreciation. Commenters took the opportunity to extend their warm congratulations and gratitude to the immigration authorities.
Many seized the chance to send their heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the Malaysian teams on their Merdeka Day celebrations.
