Police investigate 23-year-old man for suspected mischief in Pandan Gardens
The police are investigating a 23-year-old man for allegedly rearranging floral decorations for National Day at Pandan Gardens to spell “SG59 PORN” instead of “SG59 PGRN”. Police are continuing their investigations, with possible penalties including jail or fines.
SINGAPORE: The police are investigating a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief that took place in Pandan Gardens earlier this week.
On 6 August, at approximately 10:45 am, the police were alerted to an incident in the open area of Block 404, Pandan Gardens. Floral decorations, set up for National Day celebrations, were found damaged and rearranged to spell out a different word. A video of the altered display was reportedly posted on TikTok.
The decorations, which were intended to display “SG59 PGRN” (Pandan Gardens Residents’ Network) in celebration of Singapore’s 59th National Day, were instead rearranged to read “SG59 PORN”. A video showing the altered display was uploaded to TikTok, drawing public ire and interest.
The Friends of Ayer Rajah Facebook page posted an update on 6 August, condemning the act as a “distasteful” disruption of the hard work and effort put in by the Pandan Gardens Residents’ Network and local residents. They also confirmed that a police report had been lodged.
Through follow-up investigations, the police were able to identify the suspect on 7 August. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly committed the act of mischief and was responsible for filming and posting the video online.
In a news release on Saturday, 10 August, the police stated they have zero tolerance for such inconsiderate acts, emphasising their commitment to take firm action against those who damage public decorations or displays that symbolise the national spirit.
The investigation against the suspect is ongoing. If found guilty of mischief, the individual could face up to two years in jail, a fine, or both.

Arranging into the word “PORN” is the easiest. Given more time, the 23yo could have formed other four letter words.
But if he/she is truly happy with what’s going on in the country, he/she wouldn’t have done it.

I think his actions run deeper than just mere mischief. At the very least, I am sure this perpetrator wouldn’t hang a flag for national day. The authorities need to learn why people do such acts and rectify the matter from the root rather than arresting, jail, fine, case closed and insist people dissatisfaction is no fault of mine (pap).
