CNB seizes 4.15kg of Ice in Changi South operation
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized 4.15kg of Ice worth S$500,000 in Changi South, hidden in ornamental figurines. A 25-year-old foreign national was arrested.
SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized 4.15kg of Ice (crystal methamphetamine) during an operation in the Changi South area.
The contraband, with an estimated street value of S$500,000 (US$373,000), was hidden in the base structure of two ornamental figurines.
A 25-year-old foreign national was arrested for suspected drug trafficking during the operation, according to a news release by CNB. The bureau did not disclose the nationality of the suspect.
The operation was the result of an intelligence exchange between CNB and the Narcotics Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKNB) on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect was arrested that same day in the Changi South area after depositing a package at a nearby airfreight warehouse. The package, which contained two ornamental lion figurines, was seized and found to conceal the Ice within the base structure of the objects.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Chan, Deputy Director of CNB, expressed gratitude towards HKNB for their cooperation. “CNB would like to thank HKNB for their sharing of intelligence which led to this large seizure of Ice,” he stated.
“Drug syndicates operate with no regard for borders and will cooperate with anyone anywhere so long as there are profits to be made. In the face of such criminals, law enforcement agencies must cooperate closely with one another.”
Investigations into the drug activities of the suspect are ongoing.
Drug trafficking is a serious crime under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Singapore. Those convicted of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine face the mandatory death penalty.
So young. So sad.
Another to add for the killing.
Capital punishment is a deterrance.
Really ?
A Singapore flagged ship with drugs was also caught by Indonesia. We never hear of the drug Lords being arrested. Perhaps that is where efforts should be focused by law enforcement in ASEAN countries.
