SINGAPORE — A fire broke out earlier today at approximately 4:50 pm at a residential unit on the 18th floor of 2 Kim Seng Walk.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded swiftly, with firefighters from Central Fire Station arriving on the scene to find black smoke billowing from the unit.

The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was quickly extinguished using a water jet. Fortunately, no one was inside the unit at the time of the fire. However, the kitchen sustained significant damage, and the rest of the unit was affected by heat and soot.

About 150 residents had already evacuated the block before SCDF's arrival. Two individuals from neighbouring units were assessed for smoke inhalation and were subsequently conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by cooking left unattended. SCDF has reminded the public of the importance of not leaving cooking unattended, even for a short period, to prevent such incidents.
