Selangor Police Chief: Bodyguard wounded in KLIA gunshot in stable condition
Selangor Police Chief reveals that the bodyguard shot at KLIA 1 on Sunday early morning currently in stable condition. Manhunt underway for suspect who targeted his wife but hit the bodyguard instead.
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: The bodyguard who was shot at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA 1) early Sunday morning was reported to be in stable condition, according to Selangor Police Chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
During a press conference on Monday (15 April), Comm Datuk Hussein stated, “Currently, the victim remains in stable condition, and we pray for his speedy recovery.”
However, when asked whether the victim had regained consciousness, he refrained from commenting due to the victim’s medical condition falling under the authority of the medical team.
He did mention that the victim is still receiving a series of treatments.
The personal bodyguard was assigned to protect Farah Md Isa, also known as Farah Cie, a female religious teacher (Ustazah).
According to Malaysian media outlet Harian Metro, the bodyguard, known as Muhammad Nur Hadith, or ‘Along’ by his colleagues, was not supposed to be on duty that day.
Along’s colleague shared that he had stood in for a female colleague who was on the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.
Authorities earlier revealed that the suspect intended to shoot his wife, Farah Cie who was awaiting the arrival of an Umrah group at the scene.
However, the gunshot attack wounded Farah Cie’s bodyguard instead.
The police have identified the suspect as a 38-year-old male, Hafizul Harawi, who co-owns a travel agency with Farah Cie, his intended target.
In a recent Facebook post, Farah Cie mentioned that Along was still unconscious as of last night.
“I apologize for not replying to many messages. I am still traumatized by the incident that happened right in front of my eyes.
“My personal bodyguard is still unconscious. Let’s pray together for Along’s health,” she said.
Earlier, Harian Metro reported that Along’s wife rushed to the hospital upon learning that her husband was injured and in critical condition last night.
Around 1:20 am that day, the suspect fired two shots with his 9mm semiautomatic pistol at his wife at the entrance of the arrival hall but missed, with one of the shots hitting her bodyguard, Along.
The suspect fled in a car parked at level two of Block C.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that the police had launched a manhunt and urged the suspect to surrender himself.
He added that the police had enlisted CID personnel from neighbouring states for the operation, which will encompass the country’s border areas.
Mohd Shuhaily further disclosed that the suspect had three prior criminal records, two related to intimidation (Section 506 of the Penal Code) and one for theft and impersonating a civil servant (Section 380/Section 170 of the Penal Code).
