Presidential candidates react to 2024 election results

Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan and vice-presidential candidate Muhaimin Iskandar, numbered one on the ballot, issued a response to the final results of the 2024 election as announced by the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday (20 Mar).

Anies and Muhaimin conveyed their statement via Anies Baswedan’s official YouTube account, emphasizing the importance of honesty, fairness, and cleanliness in the electoral process.

In his address, Anies stressed the significance of an open and fair election process, free from any form of pressure, to ensure that every eligible voice is heard and respected.

He underscored the necessity of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process to uphold legitimacy, trust, and inclusivity in the election outcomes.

Anies urged his supporters not to respond with anger to any irregularities or abnormalities observed during the 2024 elections but instead encouraged them to gather evidence to present to the Constitutional Court.

“Our approach is not to incite anger or unrest among the public. Instead, we are focused on gathering evidence to present before the court. We aspire for our nation to continue advancing in political maturity, rather than regressing to the pre-reform era,” Anies stated.

Shortly before the announcement of the presidential election results, Ganjar Pranowo, presidential candidate number three, addressed journalists, affirming his party’s commitment to following all available processes post-election, including resorting to the Constitutional Court (MK) in case of disputes.

“We are fully prepared. Our legal team is equipped, and we are ready to proceed with the necessary processes. My colleagues have made thorough preparations,” stated Ganjar at the Teuku Umar Command Post in Jakarta on Wednesday (20 Mar).

Ganjar mentioned that his party would convene a press conference on Thursday afternoon (21 March) to provide a formal response to the 2024 election results.
