Heavy rain triggered flash floods in Phuket, Thailand, on Monday (26 October 2026), sending rocks, mud and debris into residential communities and tourist areas in Patong, damaging shopfronts and inundating vehicles.

Phuket recorded 142.8mm of rainfall over 24 hours, according to the Bangkok Post.

The resulting runoff affected areas in tambon Patong, Kathu district, including Na Nai Nai roads 5 and 8.

Shopfront windows were shattered and numerous vehicles were submerged as floodwaters and debris swept through the affected areas.

Shelters opened for affected residents

Patong municipality opened temporary shelters for affected households at its municipal office, Wat Suwankeereewong School and Patong Bay Hill hotel.

Work crews were deployed to clear rocks, mud and accumulated rubbish from affected areas.

The heavy rain also caused flash floods in parts of Muang and Thalang districts of Phuket.

Flood warnings issued across southern Thailand

Phuket was among several southern provinces affected by flooding on Monday morning.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported flooding in Palian district of Trang; Tha Phae, Manang and Thung Wa districts of Satun; and Chawang and Thung Song districts of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Thai PBS World also reported rising water levels in tributary canals in Satun, prompting local authorities to raise yellow flags to warn residents of possible flash floods and forest runoff.

In Ban Tha Phae Tai, in tambon Tha Phae, Tha Phae district, water from the Bara Ket canal inundated the area to a depth of nearly one metre.

Residents had received advance warnings and were able to move valuables and vehicles to higher ground.

Heavy rain forecast to continue

Thailand’s Meteorological Department forecast that heavy rain would continue across the South until Wednesday as the monsoon trough strengthened over the region.

Rainfall was expected to ease from Thursday to Saturday, except along the southern region’s eastern coast, where easterly winds were expected to continue bringing rain.

Flooding also affects Bangkok and other provinces

The flooding in Phuket came amid a wider flood situation across Thailand.

The Bangkok Post reported on Monday that flooding persisted in parts of Bangkok and 20 other provinces, mostly in the Central Plains, although water levels were declining.

As of Monday morning, 336,472 families were still experiencing difficulties due to flooding, with approximately 1.01 million people affected.

The reported flood death toll since mid-September remained at 83.
