Worker dies after falling from third floor of Indian school while carrying out painting work

A 30-year-old painter died after falling from the third floor of Jaipuria School in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, while carrying out painting work, with CCTV footage capturing the incident.

The deceased was identified as Ved Prakash, a resident of Shahranpur village under Kalwari police station. He had reportedly been working as a painter at the school for about 15 days.

According to NDTV, Prakash was working on the third floor at around 3:21 p.m. when he lost his balance and fell from the height. The incident caused panic among people at the school.

CCTV captures the fall

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing Prakash falling from the upper floor. The footage shows him landing on a wooden ramp before falling to the ground floor.

People at the site can be seen panicking and rushing towards him after the fall, according to the footage described by the newspaper.

Prakash was taken to Bahadurpur Community Health Centre following the incident. Because of the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to OPEK Hospital Kaili, which is affiliated with Maharshi Vashishtha Medical College.

He died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

Family alleges delay in informing them

Prakash's family has alleged negligence by the school management over safety arrangements for workers carrying out painting work at height.

The family said the incident occurred at about 3 p.m., but they were informed of Prakash's death only at around 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They have questioned the delay in informing them about the incident.

The family has also raised questions over whether adequate safety equipment, including safety belts and other necessary arrangements for workers operating at height, had been provided at the school.

They have demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and action against those found responsible.

Police investigate circumstances

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Kalwari police station, and police have begun investigating the matter.
