Four-member Malaysian family dies as police probe alleged link to US$64,000 scam losses
Police are investigating the deaths of a woman and her two children after the woman's husband died in a fall from their Kuala Lumpur condominium. Investigators believe alleged love scam losses may have preceded the tragedy.

Police in Kuala Lumpur are investigating the deaths of a 47-year-old woman and her two children after their 48-year-old husband and father died in a fall from their condominium on 27 August 2026.
The three victims were found dead inside their family home in Desa ParkCity, a township in the north-western part of Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said police received a report at about 3.32pm on 27 August that the 48-year-old man had fallen from a residential building in Persiaran Residen.
Police later went to the family's home and, with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department, gained entry into the condominium unit.
Three bodies found inside home
Fadil said the man's wife, their nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son were found dead in separate rooms.
All three victims had severe injuries to their necks, according to police.
Investigators recovered a knife and a pair of gloves believed to have been used in the killings from a drawer in the master bedroom.
Police are investigating the deaths of the woman and her two children as murder.
The circumstances surrounding the man's death are being investigated separately following his fall from the residential building.
Police also recovered a note believed to have been left by the man before he fell to his death.
Love scam losses cited by police
According to Fadil, the note expressed the man's regret and distress over his wife's alleged involvement with a love scammer.
Police said the scam had purportedly resulted in losses and debts totalling RM260,000, equivalent to approximately US$64,524.
The police account indicated that the woman was allegedly continuing to contact the scammer despite the financial losses.
"The wife was said to have continued trying to contact the scammer, and the suspect felt that her actions had gone too far," Fadil said.
"He also felt ashamed in front of his children," he said in a statement on 28 August 2026.
The alleged financial losses and debts are being treated by police as part of the circumstances surrounding the family tragedy.
Post-mortem examinations under way
The post-mortem examination on the nine-year-old girl was completed at about noon on 28 August 2026.
Fadil said the examination began at 9am and found a single stab wound measuring about 5cm on the girl's neck.
The post-mortem examination on the man's wife was expected to take place after Friday prayers.
Fadil said three post-mortem examinations were expected to be conducted on 28 August, while the examination on the 48-year-old man was scheduled for 29 August.
The man's post-mortem examination will be conducted after the Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensic team visits the scene on the morning of 29 August, according to police.
Police had earlier said the man was found dead after falling from the residential building at Persiaran Residen at about 3.32pm on 27 August.
Investigators subsequently entered the family home, where they found his wife and two children dead with severe injuries to their necks.
The case remains under police investigation as a murder inquiry.
