KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: A 27-year-old Chinese national has been detained after allegedly causing a disturbance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, with Malaysian police saying she is believed to be mentally unwell.
The incident happened at about 1.19pm on 18 August 2026 in the terminal’s departure hall, according to Malaysian media outlet Malay Mail.
KLIA police chief Assistant Commissioner M Ravi said authorities were alerted after the woman allegedly began shouting and disturbing passengers while running, singing and dancing inside the terminal.
Police intervention at the airport
According to Ravi, security personnel arrived after the disturbance was reported and managed to calm the woman before taking her to the Terminal 1 police station for further action.
She was subsequently taken to Hospital Kajang, where she was admitted to the psychiatric ward for further treatment.
Ravi said the woman was in stable condition and receiving medical care. Malaysian authorities also informed embassy officials about the incident.
The police account indicates that the woman’s behaviour was treated as a matter requiring both investigation and medical attention.
Planned return flight to China
Ravi said the woman had been scheduled to take a return flight to China on 18 August, the same day as the airport incident.
She had arrived in Malaysia with her partner as a tourist on 6 August, meaning she had been in the country for about 12 days before the incident.
The police statement did not provide further details about the woman’s identity, her partner or the circumstances of her travel arrangements.
Social media footage emerges
Footage relating to the incident has also circulated on social media.
A passenger shared a video on Reddit that allegedly showed the woman speaking in Chinese and making demands involving Malaysia, Singapore and Japan.
In the footage, she allegedly called for the countries to “surrender to China” and warned that “everyone dies together” if she died in Malaysia.
The remarks are presented as allegations based on the circulating video and have not been independently verified.
Another clip circulating on social media allegedly showed the woman dancing before hugging a stranger. Airport staff and auxiliary police officers could reportedly be seen watching the situation.
The footage has attracted attention online because of the woman’s unusual behaviour and the political statements attributed to her.
Alleged activity on Chinese social media
A check of Chinese social media reportedly identified the woman as a Douyin account user.
The account introduction, as described in material circulating online, includes statements referring to Chinese food, national humiliation and Chinese consumer and payment platforms.
The introduction reportedly states: “Humanity only needs Chinese rice and Nongfu Spring. Never forget our national humiliation.”
It also says, “We Chinese only accept US dollars,” while referring to WeChat, Alipay, Taobao and Douyin.
The account introduction further says that Americans are welcome to travel to China and spend money there.
Videos allegedly posted by the woman
Netizens have also shared clips they said came from live broadcasts posted on the same Douyin account.
In one alleged livestream, the woman reportedly filmed herself moving around an airport and asking other passengers questions about whether various countries would “surrender”.
The questions reportedly included “will Japan surrender?” as well as references to Africa and Singapore.
Another clip allegedly recorded inside a police vehicle appeared to show the woman singing. She was also reportedly heard singing a birthday song while in the vehicle.
