- Police said both occupants suffered only minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
- Investigators are examining the cause while confirming no other road users were involved.
A McLaren 720S supercar broke apart after a single-vehicle crash in Sukoharjo Regency, on the Indonesian island of Java, in the early hours of Wednesday, police said, with both the driver and his passenger escaping with minor injuries.
The crash occurred at around 1.45am local time (Western Indonesia Time, GMT+7) on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, on the Solo-Wonogiri road, in front of a restaurant, Rumah Makan Pak Cipto, in Telukan village, Grogol district, Sukoharjo Regency — an area roughly 10km south of the city of Surakarta, commonly known as Solo. The vehicle, bearing the licence plate B-331, was destroyed, its bright orange body severed into two sections after striking a series of roadside structures.
Car torn apart after losing control
According to Ardian, a police inspector who heads the traffic law enforcement unit at Sukoharjo Police, the McLaren was travelling north from Sukoharjo towards the city of Solo. It had stopped at a red light at the Telukan junction on Jalan Ciu before continuing on its route.
About 100 metres after setting off again, the car's rear tyres reportedly lost traction, causing the driver to lose control.
"After the red light at the Telukan junction (Jalan Ciu), it moved off and there was a slip, the tyres slipped. The driver could not control the vehicle's speed, so it swerved to the left and then hit a pole," Ardian said, quoted by detikJateng on Thursday.
The vehicle then struck a fence, a telephone pole and an electricity pole in succession. The impact was severe enough to split the car's body in two. The front section of the vehicle continued uncontrolled to the right-hand side of the road before striking a central road barrier.
The car's battery was dislodged in the collision and struck the glass door of a nearby convenience store — a branch of the Indomaret chain, one of Indonesia's largest — shattering it, police said.
Police confirmed no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved, and no staff at the convenience store were injured. "There were none. No Indomaret staff were injured, only material losses in the form of broken glass," Ardian said, quoted by Kompas.com. The case has been classified as a single-vehicle accident.
Based on the driver's account, the car's speed was estimated at below 100 km/h at the time of the crash. Police said the driver was in good health and was not under the influence of alcohol or fatigue at the time.
Driver and passenger identified
Police identified the driver by his initials, FPA, 21, a university student from Sukoharjo, better known by his online content-creation name, Andra ST — full name Febrian Paundra Alditama, a resident of Bendosari district, Sukoharjo. Andra ST is known in Indonesia as a video game livestreamer and YouTuber. His passenger was identified as RAP, 21, Robby Adel Pantjoro, a resident of East Jakarta.
The McLaren 720S involved was a 2023 model fitted with a 3,994cc twin-turbo V8 engine producing 710 horsepower.
Both men were taken to RS Indriati Solo Baru hospital for treatment following the crash. According to Ardian, the driver has since been discharged for outpatient care, while the passenger remained under observation in hospital.
Andra ST apologises in Instagram video
After his condition improved, Andra ST posted a video to his personal Instagram account, @andrastyt_, describing the sequence of events and apologising for the incident.
"It really was a pure single-vehicle accident because the rear tyre of the car slipped, because we were going fast," he said in the video.
Andra said he and his passenger were both safe and confirmed that neither of them had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. According to his account, the pair had just finished watching a live broadcast of a 2026 World Cup match between Argentina and Egypt before deciding to drive towards Solo. He said both he and his passenger still needed time to recover, and closed his statement with an apology to all those affected by the crash.
Urine tests return negative
Police carried out urine tests on both the driver and passenger on Thursday, a day after the crash.
"Urine tests have been carried out (on Andra and Robby). The results are out, both negative. No trace of addictive substances or drugs (alcohol and narcotics)," Ardian told reporters.
Investigation ongoing
Police said the wrecked vehicle had been evacuated to the traffic police post in Grogol, Sukoharjo, for further examination. Ardian said two witnesses had so far been questioned, with the possibility of further witnesses being called.
Police are also looking into reports that the mobile phones belonging to both the driver and passenger went missing following the crash. "So far we have only asked two witnesses for clarification, and that number may still grow. The cause of the accident still needs further investigation," Ardian said.
Material losses from the crash included damage to an electricity pole, a telecommunications pole and the glass door of the convenience store, police said.
