UN food agency halts operations in Gaza after vehicle shot by Israeli forces

The UN’s World Food Programme has paused its operations in Gaza after one of its vehicles, marked with UN branding, was hit by gunfire at an Israeli military checkpoint. Cindy McCain, WFP head, condemned the attack as “totally unacceptable,” highlighting failures in the deconfliction system.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced a suspension of its operations in Gaza “until further notice” following a serious security incident in which one of its vehicles was struck by gunfire at an Israeli military checkpoint.

The incident occurred on Tuesday as the WFP vehicle, clearly marked with UN branding, approached the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) checkpoint at the Wadi Gaza Bridge after completing a mission in southern Gaza.

Cindy McCain, head of the WFP, condemned the attack, stating: “This is totally unacceptable and the latest in a series of unnecessary security incidents that have endangered the lives of WFP’s team in Gaza. As last night’s events show, the current deconfliction system is failing and this cannot go on any longer.”

The vehicle, which was hit at least 10 times, had secured the necessary clearances prior to approaching the checkpoint. Despite the severity of the attack, no injuries were reported among the WFP staff. The agency released an image showing the extensive damage to the vehicle’s windows caused by the gunfire, noting that the attack occurred just a few meters from the Israeli checkpoint.

UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric also condemned the incident, emphasizing that the WFP vehicle was part of a convoy that had been fully coordinated with the IDF.

“A clearly marked UN humanitarian vehicle, part of a convoy that had been fully coordinated with the IDF, was struck 10 times by IDF gunfire, including with bullets targeting front windows,” Dujarric said.

He added that it remains unclear if the convoy’s movement information, which was shared with Israeli authorities, was communicated effectively to the ground forces.

The Israeli military has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident.

This incident is the latest in a series of security challenges faced by UN agencies operating in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict, which began on 7 October 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israeli communities, resulting in the deaths of 1,169 people and the abduction of 250 hostages, according to Israeli sources.

In retaliation, the Israeli military has conducted extensive operations across Gaza, leading to widespread destruction, the displacement of nearly all of the territory’s 2.3 million residents, and the deaths of 40,534 people and 93,778 injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The incident comes at a critical time as the UN prepares to launch a vaccination campaign for an estimated 640,000 children in Gaza, following reports from the World Health Organization that a 10-month-old baby had been paralyzed by the type 2 poliovirus—the first case of its kind in Gaza in 25 years.

The WFP’s decision to suspend its operations adds to the growing concerns about the safety and effectiveness of humanitarian efforts in the region, which have been hindered by ongoing violence and what the UN describes as “total lawlessness” in Gaza.

Hamsa can cease fire for 3 days for polio vacinnations but do not want to cease war? Goes to show it is using Palestinians and Israel civilians as hostages. What do you think?

Israel providing polio vaccines to children age below 10 years old. How can Palestinians and Hamas lovers tell the world that Israel is killing children? How can it be right?

Hamas’s armed wing, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, confirmed that Khazem was a leader in Jenin camp and that Masharqa and Amer were members.

The UN’s World Food Programme must be anti-semitic!

Its a real joke !!!

Hamas can immediately cease fire for 3 days? and not cease fire ? Where are the Hamas lovers here? hahahahahaha!!!!

It shows that Hamas WANTS TO RESUME FIGHTING !!! STOP SAYING ISRAEL COMMIT GENOCIDES !!! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Israel just agreed to some “humanitarian pauses” in Gaza to allow health officials to administer polio vaccinations to children in the territory. The terrorist-lovers must fuxking their brains how to spin this into part of the “genocide” plan.

There is a list of about 19 incidents confirms as “false” reports on the Gaza war so far. Due to comment limit, only list the first few – anyone can check these incidents are falsely attributed to Israelis but subsequent investigations are usually omitted by the media : 1. Al Shifa Hospital incident (October 17, 2023): Hamas claimed that an Israeli airstrike targeted the hospital, killing hundreds. It was later revealed that the explosion was caused by a misfired rocket from Palestinian Islamic Jihad, not an Israeli strike. 2. Flour Massacre (October 22, 2023): Hamas accused Israel of bombing a… Read more »

So who reported the vehicle was hit by “Israeli” gunfire? The Palestinian authority? Near an Israeli checkpoint means gunfire from Israelis, hor? How convenient.

Recall 2 women killed near a church, reported by the Palestinians to be by Israeli snipers. Palestinians got super eyesight, hor. Snipers at typically 500-800m use 10x scope to shoot, yet the “witnesses” can counter-spot the snipers using naked eyes AND identified the shooters as Israelis. Maybe the snipers conveniently waved an Israel flag to reveal their nationality and position, hor.

The Americans have started to call some of the Zionists in the West Bank terrorists. So now the rightist in America cannot fund these Zionists settlors in the West Bank. More than 100 over countries in the UN refused to term Hamas as a Terrorist organisation. Now as Netanyahu continues with the war, the Americans may have no alternative but to term the Zionist Movement as a Terrorist group. They can then send arms to Israel for its defence after a Leftist government is elected. The Democrats will then win the elections as the “uncommitted, ” voters will swing to… Read more »

Another “tragic mistake”? If the IDF is so incompetent, no wonder they have not managed to handle the Palestinian “terrorists” all these years.

Israel provide food and medical aid. Apparently they are hijacked by Hamas terrorists.

Did the Useless Noise (UN) knows about it? what do you think?

UN vehicle was shot by Terrorist group

Wah, if this was really the car shot by IDF or whatever on the israeli side must give full marks for their markmanship.
Hit all the side windows, not one single bullet hit the car body on the side.
If only your Sinkie soldiers can shoot so well.
Anyway, like what Wayang Woke Lawrence was jogging with your NS men to show some propaganda wayang.
No point for your NS men to shoot so well, after all with 60,000 unemployed now, 94.5% jobs going to FTs, WHO OR WHAT ARE YOUR NS MEN DEFENDING FOR?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆

Useless Noise( UN) and ICJ (International Cuckoo Jokers) must know what goes around comes around. tsk tsk tsk

When are they arresting Hamas terrorist’s leader? When are they telling them to free all civilian’s hostages? When are they awaken that 7th October is a genocide crime? LOL
