PAP turns to ‘ice cream tactics’ to garner support ahead of General Election

In a bizarre move, PAP Ministers and MPs have been handing out ice creams to residents ahead of upcoming GE in bid to connect with the community. While some may argue that creativity in politics is valuable, Steve Jobs’ quote comes to mind: “If you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader, sell ice cream!”

SINGAPORE: Ahead of the upcoming general election, Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) has ramped up its community outreach with a new and inventive approach that has left many Singaporeans perplexed.

PAP Ministers and MPs have taken to the streets as ‘ice cream distributors,’ engaging with the community by handing out ice cream to children and the elderly.

Social media observations reveal that this ‘ice cream distribution’ initiative has been ongoing since May, and many netizens have criticized it as an election gimmick.

In addition to distributing ice cream, the PAP team uses these opportunities to update the public on the party’s latest projects and policies.

In May, Low Yen Ling, PAP MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC and Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, as well as the Ministry of Trade and Industry, shared on Facebook that she enjoyed serving over 300 residents at Guilin Estate with ice cream.

Separately, Tan Kiat How, MP for East Coast GRC and Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, as well as the Ministry of National Development, shared in a TikTok post on June 22 that his team distributed ice cream at Bedok Town Centre.

He noted that this provided a valuable opportunity for his team to gather direct feedback from residents on how to improve the constituency.

@tankiathow

Together with our @People’s Action Party activists, we distributed ice cream at Bedok Town Centre this afternoon. Happy to have meaningful conversations with our residents and to hear their feedback and suggestions on how we can make #KampongChaiChee a better home for everyone. Do join us at our next session! #PAPDifference #EastCoastPlan #KCCCares #CaringEastCoast #icecream

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment, Baey Yam Keng, who is also MP for Tampines GRC, chose to distribute ice cream before National Day.

A video he shared showed a long queue of people waiting for ice cream.

Other MPs and PAP members, including Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information and Second Minister for Home Affairs; Vikram Nair, PAP MP for Sembawang GRC; and the PAP Sengkang team led by Marcus Loh, have also showcased their ‘ice cream tactics’ on social media as a means to engage residents.

To celebrate Youth Day, the Young #PAP in #TeamSengkang organised to distribute ice-cream and chat with residents in SengkangGRC. Did you manage to catch us? 🫶 #PAP4SG #YouthDay #Dilemma #RefreshPAP

While some might argue that politicians can be creative in engaging the community, it’s worth recalling the famous quote from former Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “If you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader, sell ice cream!”

Jobs for foreigners.

you prefer jobs or ice cream? tsk tsk tsk

Last time they tried to bribe voters with free porridge, now with free cheap ice cream. When you finally see pap handing out free Haagen Daz, you would know they are truly desperate about losing more seats and losing more pap ministers. Let’s take the pap ice cream which is already paid for by you, the taxpayers, and then vote to deny pap their 2/3 majority!

Singaporeans so cheap, meh?

Wonder what brand ice cream

Wasn’t it only a few years ago when LHL ran out of ideas for his NDP Rally and decided to devote his entire speech on waging war against diabetes? And now the PAP is undermining the Health Ministry’s efforts to encourage Singaporeans to cut down on sugar by handing out diabetes in a cone.

Now we can conclude that votes are more important to them than Singaporeans’ health. Shame on them!

Million$ ministers went through SkillsFuture course to become ice cream sellers? Can we pay them ice cream sellers salary?

Now it is proven, without doubt, that voting Opposition is to keep the PAP on its toes. Voters can have two MPs working for them. One full time Opposition MP who truly represent the voters and one PAP member trying hard to win back the constituency.

Voters can occasionally, have free chicken rice, abalone porridge and ice cream, given out by PAP’s members.

Singaporeans, #takeicecreamVoteOppies.

Another SG first, mil$ icecream ” sellers” 🙄😒😖
Selling more than icecream..🙃🙂

The most expensive Ice-cream hawkers in the world. The most expensive ice-cream in the world (Not even the good kind). All paid by taxpayers dollars. Putting real ice-cream hawkers out of business? Yes. Stamping out SMEs is what big governments excel at.

70% Cotton Sheep still falling for such scams? You bet.

Better still if these papigs can suck the peoples’ ice cream for the votes they crave for???

Will Singaporeans fall for this stupid tactic?

Yes, they will, just like how they think HDB flats will make them rich while still staying in Singapore.

Never underestimate wishful thinking.

Don’t they have to attend WSQ food handling course first?

Maybe not. Exemption.

Desperate tactics for desperate people. How low can one get?

Campaigning started oredy?

Can we have stall serving free MSW Durian next time? My 6 year old niece love MSW. Or, Red Prawn, D24 also can.

After that, fish ball noodles, curry pork, chicken rice all also can!

Love you guys so much, although highly paid, you still serve singaporean doing all sorts of tough jobs!

The toilets for our hawker centres are quite shitty too, can help washing them next weekend? If not next month also can. Can wait. ❤️

My policy is grab anything that is given out. Do it with a smile and a big “thank you”.

After that, at the ballot box just put your “X” next to any logo that is not the lightning.

Imagine if Opposition Party logo shown instead. What happens?

Not braibhing, just icecream🤭

All kinds of gimmicks…if the opp parties were to do simething similar, sure they say cannot…against the rules …etc .

Did u see the PAP logo on the icecream trolley bike?
How low can they go!

This shows the PAP knows the mentality of their local Sinkie.
Immature, balless, gian png and easily swayed by nonsense.
They throw bread crumps to kinds like these to get their votes but the PAP enrich themselves every 5 yrs!
Swee.😆😆🤣🤣😆😆🤣🤣

Right ,

Selling ice cream even better

I support selling ice cream

But, … most of the majority love it, which has been clearly proven over the last six decades !!!

gerrymandering? hahahaha! What do you think

Please remember this after eating ice-cream.

Someon once said we are free-riders. tsk tsk tsk . What do you think? LOL

Slurping and licking, any wonder the bizarre behind the promoting?

If they had functioned as well as the Opposition in Parliament, they won’t need these gimmicks. They probably think of us as idiots who will vote for them after giving out ice cream. Who is paying? PAP , PA or donors?
