Elderly woman living alone robbed and assaulted in Malaysia, suspects sought
An 80-year-old woman living alone was robbed and assaulted during a pre-dawn break-in at her home in Lenggong, Perak. Police are searching for two suspects believed to have fled in a dark-coloured car bearing a registration number suspected to be fake.
MALAYSIA: An elderly woman living alone was robbed and assaulted during a pre-dawn break-in at her home in Malaysia's Perak state, with police searching for two suspects believed to be involved.
The incident occurred in the town of Lenggong on 21 July 2026 and drew public attention after the victim's family shared CCTV footage online and appealed for information.
Police said the victim, who is in her 80s, was allegedly pushed, kicked and threatened with an iron rod before the suspects fled with several belongings.
Elderly victim allegedly assaulted during break-in
Abdul Samad said the victim, a woman in her 80s who lives alone, was at home when the suspects allegedly forced entry by prying open a door.
According to police, one of the suspects then pushed and kicked the victim before threatening her with an iron rod.
The suspects subsequently fled after taking several of the victim's belongings.
The victim's family had earlier alleged in a Facebook post that the elderly woman was kicked twice during the incident, causing injuries and severe emotional distress.
CCTV footage shared online
The Facebook post included CCTV footage purportedly showing a vehicle believed to be linked to the robbery.
Family members claimed the footage captured a black Mazda bearing the registration number VMG 9433 and appealed for members of the public to assist police by sharing any relevant CCTV or dashcam recordings.
However, police later said initial investigations indicated the suspects escaped in a dark-coloured car bearing the registration number VMG 8433, which is believed to be a false registration number.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the vehicle shown in the footage was the same vehicle used by the suspects.
Police appeal for information
According to Harian Metro, Abdul Samad said efforts to trace the suspects are ongoing.
He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact the nearest police station.
Police are investigating the case under Sections 395 and 397 of Malaysia's Penal Code, which relate to robbery and robbery involving the use of weapons.
Investigations remain ongoing.
