Two volunteers from Thailand’s Ruamkatanyu Foundation have been praised after reviving a cat that had stopped breathing following a road accident in Ayutthaya.

The rescuers performed CPR on the animal after it was struck by a pickup truck on Bang Nom Kho Sai Nai Road in Sena district.

A video circulating on social media showed the two volunteers providing emergency treatment to the injured cat.

One rescuer supported the animal’s head and maintained its airway, while the other performed repeated chest compressions.

Rescuers initially thought cat had died

According to Khaosod English, volunteers Kantharak Raitook, 37, and Watcharapol Suporn, 33, were sitting near the road when they witnessed the pickup truck hit the cat.

The pair initially planned to move the animal away from the road to prevent it from being struck again. However, after touching the cat, they noticed it was still warm and bleeding from its mouth and nose.

Recognising signs that the animal was still alive, the volunteers used their emergency rescue training and began performing CPR.

The two rescuers took turns providing chest compressions for around 30 minutes until the cat began breathing again.

Cat recovers after veterinary treatment

After the rescue, a woman who knew the volunteers helped bring the cat to a veterinary hospital for further treatment.

Pornkamol Phianphong, 47, who later adopted the cat, said the animal arrived at his home unable to walk and still bleeding from its mouth and nose.

A veterinarian told him the cat had a good chance of survival if it could make it through the first night.

The cat regained consciousness the following morning and gradually improved after receiving treatment and care.

It eventually recovered its ability to walk and returned to normal activities.

Rescue draws online praise

Pornkamol named the approximately two-year-old male cat “Boon Rod”, which means “survived through merit”, reflecting the animal’s recovery after the accident.

The rescue video gained widespread attention online, with many users praising the two volunteers for applying their lifesaving skills to help an injured animal.
