McDonald’s India rejects deleted X post alleging unpaid intern wages

A post that briefly appeared on McDonald’s India’s X account on Sunday, 6 September, alleged that an intern had not received wages from a manager since December 2025, prompting a social media stir before the company said the content was fabricated.
The post, which was subsequently deleted, was attributed to an unidentified person claiming to be an intern at McDonald’s India. It included a photograph of a person identified as Amit Joshi, described in the post as the intern’s boss.
“I am an intern at McDonald’s India. My boss, Amit Joshi, has not paid me for months, forcing me to take on two extra jobs. I manage several McDonald’s Asian accounts, but Amit Joshi has not paid me since December 2025.”
The identity of the person behind the post has not been established, and the allegations against Joshi have not been independently verified.
Screenshots of the deleted content continued to circulate on social media.
Claims expanded beyond workplace dispute
The posts later included further claims about the alleged intern’s financial circumstances.
In one message, the person said they were working in customer support and delivery while also attempting to trade memecoins, claiming losses from cryptocurrency trading had left them struggling financially.
“In addition to my two jobs in customer support and delivery, I try to trade memecoins. I literally starve every day because I lose all my money on them.”
Another post claimed the person had not been paid since May and was seeking financial support from the online community.
“Since Amit Joshi is refusing to pay my salary, I plan to get community support. I believe this is a good option because they hold over ₹60,000. I haven’t been paid since May.”
The account subsequently shifted towards cryptocurrency-related content, including promotion of a memecoin and the posting of cryptocurrency wallet addresses. It later posted: “Thanks, I have claimed fees!”
The unusual sequence of posts led social media users to question whether the account had been compromised and was being used to promote a potential cryptocurrency scam.
McDonald’s India rejects authenticity of post
McDonald’s India denied any connection with the circulating content and said the post had not been published through its official social media account.
In a statement cited by WION and India Today, the company said:
“McDonald’s India has no association with a social media post currently circulating online. It falsely uses our brand name and was never posted from our official social media handle. There are clear discrepancies in the image that indicate this content is entirely fabricated.”
The company added:
“We urge you not to rely on or spread this unverified information.”
McDonald’s India (West & South) also denied any association with the post, saying it was fabricated.
The company appeared to address the incident separately by sharing an image of a sad dog holding a phone alongside the message: “McD admin right now: If only our actual posts went this viral”. The post also carried the hashtags “#memecoin” and “#fakenews”.
Identity and allegations remain unverified
The identity of the alleged intern remains unknown, while there is no independent confirmation of the salary-related claims or of the person identified as Joshi being involved in the alleged dispute.
The screenshots have continued to circulate despite the original post being deleted, keeping the incident in discussion online as users debate whether the content represented a genuine workplace complaint or activity linked to a possible cryptocurrency scam.
