Chee Hong Tat appointed deputy chairman of MAS board
Second Minister for Finance and Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) board of directors.
Second Minister for Finance and Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) board of directors.
His tenure will span from 23 August 2024 to 31 May 2027, as announced by MAS on Monday (29 July).
Mr Chee joined the MAS Board on 1 June.
The board is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, who took over from Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on 15 May. Mr Gan had served as deputy chairman since 8 July 2023.

- Former Head of the Civil Service Peter Ong
- Chairman of NetLink NBN Management Chaly Mah

- Attorney-General Lucien Wong
- Retired partner at PWC Deborah Ong
- Managing partner at WongPartnership Ng Wai King
- MAS managing director Chia Der Jiun
Under the MAS Act, the board of directors is appointed by the President, with the chairman recommended by the Cabinet. The board oversees the policy and general administration of MAS’ affairs and business, informing the government of its regulatory, supervisory, and monetary policies. It is accountable to parliament through the Minister-in-charge of MAS.

Looks like the stars are being aligned nicely for CHT. Chee must give thanks to Iswaran for his (Iswaran’s) alleged malfeasance which paved the way for him (CHT) to be in the limelight.
So, in a short span of time CHT has been deemed deserving of a “promotion” to Dy Chairman of the MAS leapfrogging a Deputy PM ie Heng Swee Keat.
Is CHT earmarked to be Finance Minister/2nd Dy PM?
So far since promoted to Transport Minister this year, CHT performance has been pretty lousy – how many cock-ups already under him? How much backpedaling had he done from his initial statements? Yet still want to expand his portfolio??? Apparently the pappies don’t have enough heavy-weight ministers to front their GRC teams in the next election. Ah Goh was right in 2018 – Kayu Son left it till too late to put together the 4G team (and sway to have the covid in 2019 too). LawlanWong’s team, apparently a B-team, was born out of desperation.
