SINGAPORE: On Wednesday (17 July), The Workers’ Party (WP) announced new appointments for their newly elected Central Executive Committee (CEC).

In a statement, the WP noted that the party's CEC met on Tuesday and approved several appointments to the current CEC.

The party also mentioned that the CEC co-opted an additional member, Mr Fadli Fawzi, bringing the total number of CEC members to 15.

The newly elected leadership team comprises a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging leaders poised to steer the party, underscoring the WP’s readiness for the electoral challenges ahead.

Mr Pritam Singh, Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied GRC, had earlier been elected by the Party’s Cadre Members’ Conference on 30 June 2024 as Secretary-General of the Party.

Ms Sylvia Lim, 59, will continue to serve as WP Chair, while Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap, also an Aljunied MP, will serve as Vice Chair.

Former Aljunied MP Mr Low Thia Khiang (刘程强) was re-elected and will continue to serve as a member of the CEC.

MP for Sengkang GRC, Ms He Ting Ru (何廷儒), has been appointed WP Treasurer, with Mr Nathaniel Koh (许金桂) serving as her deputy.

Hougang MP Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong (陈立峰) will take on the role of Organising Secretary, supported by Deputy Organising Secretaries Mr Ang Boon Yaw (汪文耀), Mr Foo Seck Guan Kenneth (符策涫), Mr Tan Kong Soon (陈广顺), and Mr Fadli Fawzi.

Mr Fadli, along with Mr Nathaniel Koh, former Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong, Ron Tan Jun Yen, and Muhammad Azhar Abdul Latip, formed a five-man WP team to contest in Marine Parade GRC during the 2020 General Election, facing the ruling party PAP team led by then-Parliament Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin.

Mr Louis Chua Kheng Wee (蔡庆威) was appointed as WP Media Team head, with Ms Lee Li Lian (李丽连) as his deputy.

Aljunied MP Mr Gerald Giam (严燕松) will continue to lead Policy Research in the WP team, with Sengkang MP Associate Professor Jamus Lim as his Deputy.

Associate Professor Lim will also lead the WP Youth Wing, succeeding Mr Nathaniel Koh, who served as acting President following former WP youth chief Nicole Seah's resignation from the party in July 2023 over an extramarital affair with former WP MP Leon Perera.

Former Punggol East SMC MP Lee Li Lian’s return to the CEC marks a notable comeback after stepping down from her position in 2021.

The WP's decision to convene the Cadre Members’ Conference on 30 June,  approximately six months ahead of its anticipated schedule in November this year is seen as preparation for the upcoming general election, expected to be held in the coming months.
