Fire Breaks Out at Ang Mo Kio Coffee Shop, Prompting Evacuation

SINGAPORE: A fire erupted at a coffee shop located at Block 407 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, resulting in significant damage and the evacuation of nearby residents.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) was alerted to the blaze on Tuesday (11 June) at approximately 2:40 am.

According to preliminary investigations, the fire likely originated from unattended cooking in one of the stalls in the coffee shop.

The SCDF swiftly responded and managed to extinguish the flames within 40 minutes, utilizing four water jets.

The intensity of the fire resulted in significant damage to most of the stalls within the coffee shop, while the remaining areas suffered from considerable heat and smoke damage.

In response to the incident, police officers evacuated 18 residents from the second-floor units as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the incident.

In light of the incident, the SCDF has issued a reminder to the public about fire safety practices to prevent similar occurrences.

These include not leaving cooking unattended, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and ensuring that stoves and their surrounding areas are free from grease and oil stains.
