A three-year-old girl was rescued after her head became trapped in a window grille outside a 12th-floor apartment in Zhangping, Fujian, China, on 17 October.

Neighbours and police used a stool to support her body while emergency teams worked to free her. The girl was safely rescued and was reported to be unharmed.

The incident happened at about 8am on Saturday, 17 October. Video of the rescue showed the child hanging outside the apartment building, with her head caught in the metal grille.

Residents on the 11th floor and police officers who arrived at the scene reached towards the girl from a window below. They held a stool beneath her body to help prevent her from falling.

Firefighters also prepared for the possibility of a fall, positioning a rescue air cushion on the ground below the apartment block.

The girl was eventually freed from the grille and brought to safety. Local officials and police confirmed that she had been rescued and was not seriously hurt.

Her father later sent a message to the apartment residents' online group, thanking neighbours and police for their help.

He explained that he had been working a night shift and was not at home when the incident happened.

The child's mother had believed the girl was still asleep and had left the apartment to buy groceries. The circumstances surrounding the incident were described by the father in his message to residents.

He expressed his gratitude to those who had helped his daughter, thanking them again for their timely response.
