INDIA: Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped injury after three men on a motorcycle opened fire at his car in Mumbai, India, on Sunday evening (18 October), leaving his driver and a nearby bystander with gunshot wounds.

The attackers fired seven rounds at the actor’s car in Juhu, a western Mumbai neighbourhood known for its Bollywood connections, at around 7pm, according to local media reports.

Footage of the incident has since circulated online, showing the gunmen firing at the vehicle before fleeing on a motorcycle.

The footage has drawn attention to how close the attackers came to the car and how one of the weapons appeared to malfunction during the shooting.

Viral footage shows gunmen firing at car

Police said Shroff had attended a birthday celebration at Pushpa Park, also known as Jamnabai Nursery, and was preparing to leave when the shooting occurred.

In one video, two men are seen approaching the car and firing through its windscreen and side window. A third man reportedly waited on a motorcycle to help them escape.

The footage appears to show one gunman attempting to fire again at close range, but his weapon fails to discharge. The attackers then flee on the motorcycle.

Other footage shows Shroff moving from the front passenger seat to the driver's position after his driver was injured.

People nearby can be heard shouting in alarm and urging the actor to take the injured man to hospital.

Police said Shroff was not injured. His driver, identified in reports as Firdosh or Firdaus, sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand and was taken to Nanavati Hospital.

A nearby bystander, identified as 35-year-old Umesh Charan, was also wounded and admitted to Cooper Hospital.

Police investigate alleged threat and online claim

Mumbai Police launched an investigation into the shooting, with officers from Juhu police station and the Mumbai Crime Branch examining the footage to identify the attackers and trace their escape route.

Fifteen teams were reportedly formed to track down the assailants.

Police sources also said one person had been detained, although further details were not immediately available.

Investigators were verifying a social media post and an audio recording in which individuals identified as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu purportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

The claim alleged that Shroff had been targeted because of his association or work with fellow Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

The recording reportedly included a threat against others in Mumbai's film industry who had worked with Khan.

The claims had not been independently authenticated by police, and alleged links between the individuals and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang remained under investigation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly contacted the Mumbai Police Commissioner following the shooting and called for a swift investigation and strict action against those responsible.

Shooting follows other attacks linked to Bollywood figures

The incident comes amid a series of threats and attacks involving figures associated with Mumbai's film industry.

In April 2024, gunmen fired outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra, Mumbai.

Investigators alleged that members of the Lawrence Bishnoi network were involved in the attack, which was linked to longstanding threats against the actor.

In October 2024, former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son’s office in Bandra East.

Investigators subsequently linked the killing to the Bishnoi network, although the precise motives and roles of those involved have been matters for the investigation.

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty's home was also targeted in a shooting in February 2026, with Mumbai Crime Branch investigators reportedly linking the attack to members associated with the Shubham Lonkar gang.

Police have yet to establish the full circumstances behind the shooting involving Shroff.
