MALAYSIA: Four 14-year-old boys have been arrested after a teenage boy was seriously injured in an alleged assault at a residential complex in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The incident took place on 5 July at Residensi PRIMA Alam Damai.
Police said the victim sustained serious injuries, while a video of the assault later circulated on WhatsApp.
According to Berita RTM, the victim's mother lodged a police report shortly after midnight on the day of the incident, prompting an investigation by officers from the Cheras District Police Headquarters.
Four teenagers arrested
Cheras District Police Chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud said investigators arrested four local boys, all aged about 14, to assist with the investigation.
Police also seized a mobile phone believed to have been used by one of the suspects to record the assault.
According to Malaysia Gazette, investigators believe the incident may have been motivated by dissatisfaction or a personal grievance against the victim, although investigations remain ongoing.
The suspects were remanded for two days from 6 to 7 July.
Video circulated online
Police said they became aware that footage of the incident had been widely circulated through WhatsApp.
The video, which has since spread on social media, allegedly shows several students wearing school sports attire assaulting another teenage boy while one of them records the attack.
Authorities have not released further details about the victim's condition.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of Malaysia's Penal Code, which relates to voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Police said the investigation papers are being finalised before being submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.
Education authorities respond
Following the circulation of the video, the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Education Department (JPWPKL) issued a statement saying it viewed the incident seriously.
The department clarified that the fight took place outside school premises and said police investigations had been completed, with the case now entering the legal process.
JPWPKL said it was fully cooperating with the authorities and would not tolerate violence involving members of the school community.
