Indonesia’s 2024 Presidential race gains momentum as two prominent candidate pairs complete registration
In a pivotal moment for Indonesia’s upcoming presidential election, leading candidates Anies-Cak Imin and Ganjar-Mahfud completed their official registration with the Election Commission on October 19.
These entries mark the beginning of a rigorous selection process, with the final list of contenders set to be revealed on November 13.
INDONESIA: On Thursday (19 Oct), two sets of presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (commonly known as Cak Imin) and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, completed their registration with the General Elections Commission (KPU).
The Change Coalition’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), formally submitted their registration to the KPU on Thursday (19 Oct)
The duo arrived at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time, both donning white shirts and black caps. They proceeded to submit the necessary documentation for their presidential and vice-presidential candidacy.
Representatives from the coalition parties supporting Anies-Cak Imin symbolically presented the required documents to KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari.
Several leaders of these coalition parties, including Surya Paloh of the National Democratic Party (NasDem), Ahmad Syaikhu of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and members of the National Awakening Party (PKB), were present.
They expressed gratitude to the KPU and all parties involved in the registration process, expressing their hope for a fair and credible presidential election in Indonesia under Hasyim’s leadership.
Prior to visiting the KPU, Anies and Cak Imin made stops at the offices of each coalition party, namely PKS, PKB, and NasDem. They were accompanied by groups of supporters during their registration process.
Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD completed their registration on the same day
Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD officially registered as presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election on Thursday (19 Oct).
They submitted their necessary documents to the KPU in the afternoon at around 1:10 p.m.
Ganjar expressed, “I, Mr. Mahfud, and my spouse are here with the sponsoring party to submit the documents. Representatives from the KPU Commission have received them. We hope that this marks the beginning of the fulfillment of legal requirements.”
He further added his hopes that, through their prepared vision and mission, Indonesia would see further progress and solicited support from the community while emphasizing the importance of KPU’s neutrality and its service for the nation’s advancement.
Leaders of the coalition parties, including Megawati Soekarnoputri of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Mardiono of the United Development Party (PPP), Oesman Sapta Odang of the People’s Conscience (Hanura), and Hary Tanoesoedibjo of the United Indonesia Party (Perindo), joined Ganjar during this event.
Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate registration and verification details for the 2024 elections
The documents submitted by both pairs were deemed complete by the General Election Commission and will undergo verification beginning on Friday (20 Oct).
KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari announced that the results of the verification process would be disclosed on 13 November when the final list of participating pairs in the 2024 elections will be determined.
In the meantime, both pairs are required to undergo medical tests, with Anies-Cak Imin’s tests scheduled for Saturday (21 Oct), and Ganjar-Mahfud’s for Sunday (22 Oct).
The registration period for presidential and vice-presidential candidates will remain open until next Wednesday (25 Oct)
