INDONESIA: In a truly harrowing incident, a 15-month-old infant not only survived being struck once but miraculously endured being struck twice by a car.

The shocking events unfolded on 18 August, at 10.00 a.m. local time at Jalan Adhyaksa Baru in Panakkukang, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

The story only came to public attention on Monday (4 Sept), when a video depicting the child’s traumatic encounters went viral across various social media platforms.

In these disturbing videos, the infant is seen walking before a car passes and runs over him.

The driver, identified as AT, initially struck the infant with her car, and the right front wheel ran over the child.

In a shocking turn of events, rather than coming to a halt, AT accelerated once more, causing the right rear wheel to crush the helpless child. She appeared completely unaware that there was a child beneath her wheel.

Infant survived car accidents, but health issues and legal matters emerge

Soon after the incident, the infant’s parents rushed him to the hospital for a thorough examination.

To their surprise, the doctors found no serious injuries, leaving the family perplexed.

However, their concerns grew when they noticed abnormalities in the infant’s walking pattern two weeks later.

The infant’s leg began to swell, and he incessantly complained of pain, prompting AT to suggest taking the child to a massage therapist, offering a mere 150,000 rupiah (US$10).

Unsatisfied with this response and feeling that the neighbor-driver was avoiding responsibility, the victim’s parents eventually reported the case to the police.

Currently, the police are actively investigating the family’s report, and they have secured the Pajero Sport car belonging to the perpetrator.

Police intervention led to a mediation between the two parties, where the victim’s parents expressed their willingness to reconcile, provided that AT accepted full responsibility.

In response, AT pledged to cover all medical treatment expenses until the infant achieves a full recovery, and the child is scheduled for further examination at the hospital.
