Beyond Personalities: A deep dive into the PE2023 election and the influence of the Establishment
In PE2023, the real battle isn’t about individual candidates but the Ruling Party’s influence. Prime Minister LHL’s wife’s role at Temasek raises questions, especially with the opaque handling of our Reserves. Amidst this, Tan Kin Lian stands out as an independent voice, offering a fresh perspective on governance and transparency.
Jen Shek Voon, senior partner Ernst & Young shares his views about PE2023 in his Facebook post.
Dear Friends,
This Presidential Election is not about the personality and intellect of the PE2023 candidates.
It is on how the Ruling Party and The Establishment, have, over the past presidential elections made their preferred PE candidate, sometimes through non-election, truly reflect the Establishment’s views.
And they have ensured their success as they have been pre-selected by the Ruling Party to win the PE by the strict selection criteria and/or vote-splitting tactics.
The situation is further exacerbated by the Role of The Wife of PM LHL, the unofficially non-elected power at Temasek, who controls how part of our Reserves is reinvested (and how can you do this job well when frugality is never the order of the day and when the Temasek’s administration costs are over S$10B (900 people) which is about ten times that of the Norweigan Sovereign Wealth Fund (572 people in 2022)),
It is obvious that one of the two PEs from the Establishment is her preferred choice. This is the payback time when you are given a S$4B fund to invest in your retirement.
This engineered Pre-Selected PE role has further fossilised our system of public governance with fairly little change and also no debate on how our reserves should be utilised for a “ rainy day” -once a year when the annual SG Budget is presented or when the “perfect storm” hits us.
The Ruling Party never talks about such an event, as the amount of our Reserves is a State Secret.
We have seen how the Role of the Presidency has been utilised to shield away from what little debate there is in Parliament and authorised huge spending amounts like the S$40 B during C-19 and the many Government-Linked Companies who benefitted from these measures along with those who deserved these reliefs.
No debate as the measures are presented to the elected President, and they are normally signed off.
Now for the first time, we have two PE 2023 candidates who are establishment figures and another PE Candidate, Tan Kin Lian who asserts that he represents The Alternative Independent Candidate for regaining Trust and Hope for our people, especially the young.
So please listen to the Politically Prude podcast and judge for yourself.
And if you believe in what Tan Kin Lian has said then please spread the words well before Friday, 1 September 2023.

All 3 are not perfect. To wait for Perfect Candidate to vote is impractical. We would all be dead and still no such person. We Vote for Ourselves, not so much the candidates. TKL was ready to step aside but GG the bigger threat to Pap was disqualified . We thank TKL for paying the ticket for us to Vote for Change and : 1. As LTK said Reserves Secrecy and PAP endorsed president is a risk to reserves. Future gov turned rogue can use this to raid the reserves with such a trusting zombie population. 2. As TCB said,… Read more »
Although the president is largely ceremonial, he after all represents the country and their people
Vote TKL so that you have a strong voice to speak out for ordinary citizens, not overwhelming by the arrogant and bullying pappies.
The establishment will do anything and everything, … to ensure there’s no OTC styled “tenure” !!!
Even if it meant having two “of their own”, … with the obvious vote splitting, hopefully, … working in their favour.
Then again, it’ll all be for nowt, if the electorate don’t play their part, and, … given all that’s gone on and Tharman’s apparent “popularity” (which only the deep blue sea and stars in the sky will comprehend) will ensure the nation has more of the bloody same !!!

A Chance for Change! How many 6 years do you have? The last contested Presidential elections was 12 years ago! They raised the requirements from $100 Million to $500 Million and many eligible Presidential candidates from 12 years ago in 2011 were now not qualified both Tan Cheng Bock 34.85% of popular vote and Tan Jee Say 25.04% of popular vote was not qualified now. You give them leeway this round in 2023 they might possibly raise the requirements even more then by then only their own are eligible! For me personally I am set in my heart and mind… Read more »

Pineapple head is getting visibly desperate and starts to rebuke his rivals for making factual statements.
If a child is brought up for 22 long years, can this child says think with 100% independence of mind and cut off tie completely, nothing to do at all with the parents.
What do you think?
In many Singaporeans mind, there is no doubt the presence of HC is probably the root cause why the cabinet members of LHL all choose to have the same group thinking. They all know who wears the pants at home and some of the ideas floated by the PM are actually whose. Therefore to disagree with what the PM floats around during cabinet meetings, is akin to slapping HC’s face. And ti do so is to risk being sidelined. HC never fails to exert her influence because she knows she was approved by the founding father. If only the late… Read more »
